From the word “gyro” (meaning ring, spiral or circle) and “tonic” (to tone or invigorate), Gyrotonic movements help to increase range of motion, coordination, and strength by performing prescribed graceful circular motions. Key movements principles were developed from yoga, swimming, gymnastics and ballet. By moving through several variations of these motions with the resistance of the machine, the exercise can develop integration and mutually supporting action in the major muscle groups, promoting multiple joint articulation, creating coordinated power in the muscles and simultaneously strengthening the ligaments. By moving in connected, natural patterns, the body flows smoothly between contraction and extension. This brings balanced support to the skeletal system.
A single Gyrotonic session can relieve muscle stress and leave you more aware of your whole body. After a few weeks of training, you will likely feel a pronounced difference in strength, ease, efficiency of movement, and an overall sense of well being.
The studio has two Cobra machines, an Archway and Jump Stretch Board.
Private and Duet sessions are offered by appointment only.
